10:12 India time
This morning I woke up at about 6 a.m., and worked on the blog a little bit. I really want to catch up so that I'm not always running behind. At about 7, I got up, put on a churidar and bindi and went out to the living area to see if I could get enough wifi juice to upload. Raja made sure the modem was on, and I uploaded my two back posts and one photo post (I'm working on the second one now.)
I meant to go see the flag raising, but I was so engrossed in blogging that I missed it. I am wearing my green and orange churidar, though, to commemorate the day, even though Raja says that most Indians keep Independence Day on the down-low to minimize Hindu-Muslim conflicts. It was 63 years ago, during the withdrawal of the British forces from India, that the partition between India and Pakistan was created. Many Indian Muslims voluntarily moved to Pakistan, and others were "encouraged" to go. Both then and since, there have been many clashes (often violent) between Pakistanis and Indians. Both Hindus and Muslims pride themselves on belonging to peace-loving religions (and mostly they are) but that doesn't seem to be true when they clash politically. There is still a lot of conflict over the debated region in the north called Kashmir. There have been ongoing conflicts there for years and years. Because of this conflict, Raja does not patronize Pakistani businesses or buy things made in Pakistan. He does not have hatred towards Muslims, though, and has often stood up for their rights. I really respect him for that, because it is not a popular stand to take in India. It sometimes takes a lot of guts to stand up for what you believe is right.
This morning is cooler than yesterday, and overcast. There has been a lot of booming thunder and the rooftops are wet with rain. Raja says there might be mosquitos tonight. That's what bug spray is for.
As I was blogging, Aunty made me coffee. I do believe she makes the best coffee in the world. A bit later she made me dosas with egg inside. They were crispy and buttery and soooooooo good. I ate two, but felt guilty. Uncle told me I didn't eat enough! These Indians are always feeding me delicious things. I won't be able to fit in any of my clothes when I come back. Thank heavens I joined a gym before I left!
I've made a list of things I want to do and see. I'll let you know, of course, when I end up doing and seeing.
Until then, be good!
